Google Nexus 7 vs Apple iPad Mini

There were a lot of high expectations when Apple and Google announced their iPad Mini and Nexus 7, respectively. Neither of these gadgets disappointed. Except if you wanted something perfect from both of them. Let’s see what each of them has to offer. Then choose for yourself what device you feel is the right one for your needs and tastes.

The display

The number of pixels featured on the Nexus 7 is the following: 800 x 1280 pixels. Its rival sports an amount of 1024 x 768 pixels; its aspect ratio is 4:3 because of this. Google’s Nexus 7 comes with a 7″ display. On the other hand, the touchscreen that Apple installed on their iPad Mini is a 7.9″. The pixel density on the iPad Mini is 163ppi. The iPad Mini pixel density is better and the display is capable to offer a superior value: up to 216ppi – which means better image quality.

The Apple iPad Mini and the Google Nexus 7 do not share the same display size. The weight and the thinness of iPad Mini with Wi-Fi look like this: 308 g and 7.2 mm. The model with both 4G and Wi-Fi has a lot more grams to its name. Compared to the iPad Mini, Google’s latest tablet has a smaller body: 120 mm x 199 mm. The iPad Mini has a 135 mm x 200 mm frame. And they don’t have the same weight and size, either, which can also be said about their width. So keep this in mind if you judge a gadget by its weight, width and other factors having to do with its body.nexus-7-vs-ipad-mini

The kind of operating system you get on the Google tablet is the Jelly Bean version. Its rival uses the iOS 6. Siri is also be present on the tablet.

Another thing which sets Apple’s creation apart is that it comes with three models: the WiFi version, the cellular one and the 3G one. If you buy a copy from UK shops, you get to use it with both 4G LTE and 3G possibilities. LG is said to offer a 3G Nexus 7 sometime soon, too.

The cameras and storage

Cameras are also featured, of course. In this case, the Apple tablet is the better one, since it ships with a 1.2-megapixel and a 5-megapixel version. The former sits on the device’s front and it boasts FaceTime HD technology. This is able to offer superior quality for the webcam use. The Nexus 7 only has 1 cam; it’s found on the front and has 1.2 megapixels at its disposition. Which is not much if you love taking photos or filming clips. But both of these gadgets deliver great-looking pics and, in the case of the iPad Mini, clips as well.

In terms of internal storage capabilities, the differences are big. While the iPad Mini sports 16, 32 and 64GB, the Nexus 7 is capable to hold only 16 and 32GB. However, none of these two models comes with a microSD slot. Which means that neither of them can expand their memories beyond the default amount.

The CPU and connectivity

In the battle of processors, the winner is the Nexus 7. Apple’s latest tablet ships with an A5 dual-core CPU. The winner is Google’s newest tablet thanks to its nVidia Tegra 3. The processor on the Nexus 7 is aided by a 1GHz quad-core chip and a 12-core graphics processor.

Connectivity matters are handled by a microUSB port in the case of the Nexus 7. Apple’s iPad Mini ships with something called Lightning connector. This is a new creation that was debuted on the company’s iPhone 5 not too long ago. It’s by far a superior technology compared to what Google uses for their new tablet.

Now let’s see how much either of these devices costs. Google’s Nexus 7 can be yours for £199 for both the 16GB and the 32GB models. The iPad Mini costs £269 by comparison for the 16GB copy.

The battery

For connecting to the Internet you are offered NFC possibilities, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when you use the Nexus 7. But, compared to the latter, the iPad Mini does not come with the same NFC capability. Both gadgets are capable of great speeds. But the iPad Mini is a bit faster than Google’s Nexus 7.ipad-mini

A 16.4Wh battery is what you’ll get if you purchase the iPad Mini. The battery employed by the Nexus 7 is a 16Wh version. The former lasts ten hours; the latter will go on for the same amount: 10 hours. Which is almost true: both tablets lasted for around 8 hours if used moderately.

It now remains to be seen what novelties the companies will throw into the game. But for now, the iPad Mini and the Nexus 7 are tablets to consider seriously.
