Install Android 4.3 XXUEML6 Stock Firmware on Galaxy S4 GT-I9505

Today our plan includes letting you owners of Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 living in Italy (Vodafone being the carrier) know how to update your smartphone to Android 4.3 jelly Bean. The new stock firmware which was launched this month for your handset is otherwise known as XXUEML6.

You won’t have to work hard to flash it on the phone. Just make sure it’s the right model before you upgrade it; use a different model and you will brick it. Because KIES logo is activated, you can always choose to use Samsung’s own KIES for the job; if you opt for this method, you have to make sure there’s a stock ROM installed on the device.

If you have no clue what features the new firmware is bound to land on your device, we’ll introduce them now: absolutely no bugs, many tweaks to make sure the phone can be personalized, an enhanced battery life as well as an improved performance, new apps and new features.

In case you’ve applied a rooting on your Galaxy S4 I9505, the new firmware is going to revoke the root access of your phone. Not only that, the system partition will also suffer by being deleted. As for the device’s important data: no harm will be done to it. The internal and external SD cards will also be safe from any kind of harm.

Requirements

The pre-requisites that apply to this update are the following:

  • make backups (a full NANDroid backup must also be performed);
  • make sure you disable the phone’s security programs;
  • do the same for the laptop’s security software
  • charge the battery of the smartphone in case you notice low charge levels;
  • install, on your notebook, USB drivers compatible with the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505;
  • turn on, on the phone, USB Debugging (do it by launching Menu, then tapping Settings, selecting Applications, choosing Development and then enabling USB Debugging);
  • be sure to use a laptop that comes with a pre-installed Windows operating system.Samsung-Galaxy-S4-GT-I9505

Instructions

  1. On to the first step now: download, on your laptop, the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean XXUEML6 (the Italy Vodafone version to download) and Odin (available here), then enter the phone in Download mode after you’ve first extracted each of the two packages on the notebook.
  2. Now you will have to enter the smartphone in Download Mode by applying these steps: press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home together and afterwards wait for the usual green robot logo together with a triangle of warning come on the screen before you press Volume Up.
  3. Your laptop will then need to have the Odin launched on it as Admin. After you’re done with this, continue with the next step: plug your Samsung I9505 to your laptop by using the handset’s very own USB cord.
  4. The connection will be established as soon as a yellow ID:COM box and “Added!!” are shown. You may, however, not see them; if that’s so, all you need to do is either install, again, the USB drivers on the notebook or use another USB port.
  5. As soon as there’s a connection going on between the two devices, you will have to do this: tap PDA, opt for a file with CODE in the name, click on Phone, choose a file sporting MODEM in the name, tap CSC, select a file with CSC in the name, tap PIT and, when done, opt for a file which will come with a .pit extension.
  6. As for what you should perform next, here are our instructions: check those boxes that have F. Reset Time, Auto Reboot and Re-partition written close to them, then tap “Start“.
  7. The Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 is going to receive the new XXUEML6 firmware very soon, because by tapping that option you will begin the tool’s flashing phase.
  8. Once the latter ends, the phone shall reboot. In a matter of seconds it will display a “Pass” message, meaning that the two devices can now be unplugged from one another.

So, once the smartphone and the notebook aren’t in close connection to each other, you will be able to have a go at the new firmware.

If you don’t know where it is: open Settings on the phone, then be sure to click on About Phone. Once you’ve put the new firmware to work and it doesn’t feel right, you can get the previous ROM back on the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505. It’s easy: restore that ROM by using the NANDroid backup file.
