Update Nexus 7 to SmoothROM v5.0 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Custom ROM

Nexus 7 can be teamed with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for better performance with our tutorial for today. The great thing about this is that we will use SmoothROM v5.0 ROM, which is known for providing one of the most appealing user interfaces.

A list of what features to expect from the SmoothROM should be featured in our guide, too. Among the most interesting ones are the following: 720p Camera, Ads blocker integrated, Power Menu, excellent stability and Busybox. Of course, there are more great features, but these were only a taste of what’s to come.

Requirements

Should you want to see all of them, then take a look at these pre-requisites beforehand: root your tablet and keep in mind to also flash a custom recovery image on it, on your laptop, use the gadget that is unlocked by its manufacturer, charge its battery unit, flash USB Drivers for the Nexus 7 on your computer, enable USB debugging on it and backup the files, text messages and so on that are on your tablet right now (but only the ones which you will use after the guide).Nexus-7

Right, now we will continue this tutorial by enumerating all the steps required for the well-being of the update process.

Important instructions

  1. Step one needs you to plug the Google Nexus 7 to your laptop and to also copy the file that’s right now on the computer and paste it to the tablet’s SD card root before powering it off.
  2. When you’ve checked that the Nexus 7 is, indeed, turned off, you have to proceed to the second step, which says this: unplug the gadget from the laptop, then take the necessary steps to see it enter Bootloader Mode. These steps are as follows: switch the device on while pressing + holding the keys employed for Volume Down, Volume Up and Power (do the pressing and holding at the same time, not separately). A series of prompts will appear on the gadget’s display; follow them.
  3. Step three will ask you to opt for Bootloader.
  4. Then the fourth step shall need you to go to Recovery, opt for Factory Reset/Wipe Data with Power, then choose Wipe Cache Partition.
  5. Fifth step will have you perform these tasks: choose Wipe Dalvik Cache as soon as you are in the Advanced section of the recovery menu. When you have performed this task, you will need to return to the tablet’s main recovery menu, opt for the flashing via the memory card, then select Choose zip from SD card.
