Update Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 using BeanStalk Build Firmware

Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 (AT&T version) comes with exciting info: there is a certain custom firmware which can be used to update the device to Jelly Bean 4.2.2.

We will be sure to use it for our tutorial. Here is its name: BeanStalk Build 1.200.

Requirements

If you can’t wait to have this OS on your phone, first thing to do: take a look at some requirements we have in store for you.

And they are the following: have a Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 whose bootloader and carrier are unlocked, charge the battery of the handset, create backups using one of our guides (a NANDroid one should be performed, too), install USB drivers for this model on your laptop and turn on USB debugging.

Important instructions

  1. First step to be careful about needs you to find Gapps package in this location (you must select the file labelled gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip) and BeanStalk Unofficial Build 1.200 firmware.
  2. Step two: as soon as you find these files, turn to your laptop and download them on it, after which be sure to plug the phone to the notebook. Galaxy-S3-I747
  3. Step three will be all about the following tasks: copy the zip files to the smartphone’s SD card, then wait for them to end where they need to.
  4. Unplug the devices from one another, then power the Galaxy S3 I747 off.
  5. The latter is required for step number five which needs you to boot the handset into Recovery Mode, an operation done like this: press and hold, at the same time, Volume Up + Volume Down + Power, let go of them when the display of the phone flashes and that’s all.
  6. It’s now time for step six: while in the Recovery Mode, you have to opt for Factory Reset/Wipe Data and Yes; after the confirmation has been operated, you should choose Wipe Cache Partition after you’ve returned to the Recovery Mode.
  7. Opt for Wipe Dalvik Cache next. Choose, after you are done with those tasks, the option that says Install zip from SD card. Now go for the option named Choose zip from SD card.
  8. Step eight will ask you to use Power in order to have the BeanStalk1.200-20130423-d2att.zip opted for. The confirmation of the flashing of this file should be performed next, then you need to have patience for a couple of seconds. Now repeat the actions from step seven (from “Choose, after you are done with these tasks (…)“) and step eight onward, but choose the Gapps package to be installed on the smartphone. Go back to the Recovery Menu.
  9. Step nine will need you to return, once more, to the phone’s Recovery Menu so that you can opt for Reboot System Now.
  10. The Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 will require a bot of time to reboot.
  11. Enjoy your updated smartphone! Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is now present on your device.

Getting a boot loop is pretty common when you perform a tutorial. To be able to solve this kind of issue, you need to first operate Wipe Cache Partition, then select Wipe Dalvik Cache and afterwards reboot your SGH-I747.

To return to the old phone’s ROM, you need to do the following: boot into Recovery Mode, choose Backup&Restore and have your handset go back to that ROM after you opt for it from a list that will pop on the display.

The message that reads “Status 7 error” should be taken care of in the following way: find and then flash a compatible kernel on your I747 and, when done, flash the BeanStalk Build 1.200.
