Update Galaxy Y Duos GT-S6102 to Android 2.3.6 XXMA2

Your Galaxy Y Duos GT-S6102, a smartphone released in February last year, will get its fair share of new features very soon. Which will only happen if you update it using the steps in today’s guide.

The novelty of this new Gingerbread 2.3.6 XXMA2 official firmware lies in the following new features: better stability while moving between home screen panels, better battery life whenever you want to use Phone Book Access Profile Bluetooth headsets, mobile hotspot bug fixes and better security, better data throughput performance in environments with low 4G signal, a couple of Vcast apps, an updated Favorite Contacts widget, update to VZ Navigator with the newest 3D map improvements, CMAS (short for Commercial Mobile Alert Service), Visual Voice Mail updates, the ability to see how much longer you have to wait while performing an OTA update and better stability for data connectivity after you turn Airplane Mode off.

Turkey is the first country where the new firmware was released this past January. After that came France, Switzerland, Kenya, Nigeria and Open Austria in February. KIES logo is only activated for Open Austria and Switzerland, so you can upgrade your device to the new firmware with KIES software, too. For the other countries you should use either OTA (over the air) with the Software Update option under Settings menu or our tutorial if your smartphone’s running a custom ROM and has Galaxy Y Duos S6102 written on its shipping box. When you’re not using the right model, you will brick it.

Keep the following in mind: if your handset is rooted, the new firmware will revoked the rooting. Along with that, the system partition of your smartphone will be erased. As for the important data running on your device: you won’t lose it. Likewise, the internal and external SD cards will stay where they are.

Requirements

Get accustomed, for the next couple of minutes, with these requirements:

  • the handset’s USB cable should be taken out and kept near you throughout the guide;
  • turn on USB Debugging;
  • download the new Android 2.3.6 S6102XXMA2 stock firmware (the France version from , the Nigeria version , the Kenya archive , the Open Austria from and the Switzerland version );
  • locate USB drivers for your smartphone and download them on your laptop;
  • charge the battery of your handset fully;
  • create a standard backup and then a full NANDroid one;
  • turn off, on your PC/notebook and smartphone, the security software running on them;
  • the laptop or comp you use must be running Windows.Galaxy-Y-Duos-S6102B

Step by step instructions

  1. The step that starts today’s guide is very easy to follow. Just unzip the two packages that are now on your laptop, after which you should do this: enter your Galaxy Y Duos S6102 into Download Mode by keeping Volume Down, Home and Power pressed at the same time, holding them for a bit, then letting go of them and pressing Volume Up as soon as a warning display comes up.
  2. The Odin is here to facilitate a connection between your phone and the laptop. To get there, launch it as an Admin on the notebook, then use the USB cord of your handset to establish that connection between it and the laptop.
  3. The Odin will then look for the smartphone; when it sees it, the tool is going to display a yellow ID:COM box and an “Added!!” message. If the handset and the notebook don’t experience a plugging, you need to install the USB drivers again or use a USB port that is not the same one you’ve used so far.
  4. Here are the next instructions for our next step: click on PDA, opt for a file with a CODE in its name, tap Phone, opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC, opt for that file which has CSC in the name, tap PIT and be sure to select a file that comes with a .pit extension.
  5. We now need you to do this: check Auto Reboot, Re-partition and F. Reset Time. When you see “Start” on the display, tap it.
  6. [sc name=”banner-jos”]The stock firmware will now be flashed on the smartphone. Your Samsung GT-S6102 will, after a few minutes, reboot and deliver this message: “Pass“.
  7. Do this next: unplug the handset from the laptop and make good use of the XXMA2 official firmware that brings the Android 2.3.6 and its features on your smartphone. If you can’t locate the firmware: go to Settings from the Menu, then tap About Phone.

If this firmware is not as good as the old one, the NANDroid backup file can be used to restore it.
