Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat VLUFNB5 on Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V

Canadian users of Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V are offered a way to get Android 4.4.2 on their device. It’s all about new firmware and an update. More to follow in our post!

This KitKat version is the newest OS your phone will receive by the end of this guide. VLUFNB5 is the name of the firmware we talked about above. This tool was launched this month for Canada and it can be used on the Galaxy S4 M919V if you use one of these carriers: Globalive Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, Video Tron or EastLink.

The deal with an update is that it enhances your handset in more ways than one. With the Android 4.4.2 KitKat in particular, your device will boast tweaks to enjoy better performance. More than that, you’ll be offered ways to customize your smartphone and new apps. The battery will last more and you’ll enjoy new features, too. No security issues will affect your handset.

The novelties

The KIES logo on the VLUFNB5 is turned on. You will thus be able to upgrade the phone with the use of the KIES software. You should know that only a device with stock ROM on it will get the upgrade with this method.

If you go with our tutorial, you don’t need to use a phone with stock ROM on-board. But you must use the Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V instead of another smartphone.Galaxy-S4-SGH-M919

Your device won’t have root access after the update. Also, its system partition will be erased. These two disadvantages will only happen if your smartphone is already rooted. The device will be capable of preserving the following: its important data and internal/external SD cards.

Prerequisites

You must now concentrate on some requirements:

Step by step instructions

If the smartphone is all ready for the procedure, make sure you follow some steps to get the new OS on your device.

  1. The guide must begin like this: go here and download Odin v3.09 on from there on your laptop. The Android KitKat 4.4.2 VLUFNB5 for your handset must be downloaded on the same device. You must select the appropriate version: , , and .
  2. After you’re done with the packages’ download, save them and use WinRar or 7Zip to extract them on the notebook for the next phase.
  3. Odin v3.09.exe is one of the files that will come out of the unzipping; it must be opened on your laptop.
  4. After this file is launched, boot the phone in Download Mode by pressing and holding, at the same time, these keys: Home, Power and Volume Down. A boot screen will come up on the display as a result, so do this to complete the booting in Download Mode: press Volume Up.
  5. The phone must then be plugged to your notebook. This requires the use of the phone’s USB cord. The connection between your handset and the other device will be established as soon as Odin will come up with a blue sign.
  6. When that happens, continue with these actions: after you add the firmware file to AP / PDA, tick F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot, then uncheck Re-partition. You should now locate “Start” and click on it once you see it.
  7. The VLUFNB5 firmware will begin an installation process. If it’s successful, you will be greeted, after 15 minutes, by a message in green; this message should say “Pass”.
  8. The Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V is going to reboot after a couple of minutes, so wait until it does that, then end the tutorial by unplugging it from the laptop.
  9. [sc name=”banner-jos”]At the end of the unplugging task, make sure you have the new firmware launched on your smartphone. This needs to be done in the following manner: tap, on the handset, the option named Settings, then the one called About Phone.

If all goes well with the new firmware, great. If not, we recommend restoring the old ROM. If you don’t know how, here’s the way to go: find the NANDroid backup file and open it. The upgrade will then become revoked.
